A Dream Coming True!
When I launched this adventure in September of 2018, I had several goals in mind but one of the biggest was to find a property to be a vegan rental property close to Ontario’s other wine country region, Prince Edward County.
Well that day has arrived! I’m beyond the moon about the beautiful country home that will be mine as of July 15, 2019. I’m thinking of calling it Ahimsa (do no harm) House or Terra (Earth) House or maybe a combo like Terrahimsa...what do you think? Both names tie into the overall plan I have for the space—which is to be an earth-friendly, vegan space that is as friendly on the land as possible.
That’s why I need YOUR IDEAS! I’m on the lookout for great, vegan-friendly, fair-trade, sustainable items to furnish the home and for creative ways to get crafty and upcycle or reuse items I have just lying around. One of my favourite ideas is to turn old car tires into little garden pots. Look at this, it’s awesome!
Another remnant of an old relationship (the tires are from the car of an ex who left them at my mom’s house never to be heard from again) is a garbage bag full of wine corks. My good friend, Anna-Lea, made me the wreath as we watched movies one Christmas Eve.
I already planned to turn a few of these into namecard holders and trivets for dinner parties, but there are some incredible ideas on the inter-web for other crafty items.
My mom has so many gorgeous saris that she never wears. I hate the idea of them just sitting there with no one to enjoy their beauty so I’m thinking of turning a few of them into cushion covers, as well as a table runner and some wall art.
I’m not the craftiest person in the world but I am lucky to have some friends who are and I will happily pay them in food & wine…it’s a perfect barter! I cannot wait to show you all the house and to welcome you to enjoy a stay or to join us for a fabulous vegan food & wine weekend.
tt’s all coming soon. Got some ideas on other ways to make this a truly sustainable home? Let me know !
